Definitions
Wherever the following words or phrases appear in this policy they will always have
the meanings shown under them.
"Close business associate"
Any person, who works at your place of business and who, if
you were both away from work at the same time for 5 or more days, would
prevent the effective continuation of that business.
"Family"
Insured person, their spouse or partner (as long as they have lived together for
6 months or more, unless accepted by us in writing) and up to maximum
of 4 dependent children under the age of 18 years or 23 years provided dependent
and in full-time education.
"Home"
Your usual place of residence in the United Kingdom.
"Overall limit"
The figure shown within the table on the Schedule of Benefits which depends on the
level of cover that you have chosen which is shown on your
Certificate Validation Document.
"Permanent total disablement"
A disability which prevents you from working in any and every job
and which lasts 12 months. And, at the end of those 12 months, is in our
medical advisor "s opinion, not going to improve.
"Certificate Validation Document"
The document showing the names and other details of all the people insured under
this insurance. The Certificate Validation Document proves
you have the cover shown in this document.
"Public transport"
Using train, bus or coach services to join the booked holiday.
"Relative"
Husband, wife, partner, grandparent, grandchild, parent, parent-in-law, brother,
sister, son, daughter, fiancé or fiancée.
"Terrorist Act"
Any actual or threatened use of force or violence directed at or causing damage,
injury, harm or disruption, or commission of an act dangerous to human life or property,
against any individual, property or government, with the stated or unstated objective
of pursuing economic, ethnic, nationalistic, political, racial or religious interests,
whether such interests are declared or not. Robberies or other criminal acts, primarily
committed for personal gain and acts arising primarily from prior personal relationships
between perpetrator(s) and victim(s) shall not be considered Terrorist Acts.
Terrorist Act shall also include any act which is verified or recognised
by the (relevant) Government as an act of terrorism.
"Trip"
Your holiday or journey starting at the time that you
leave your home address in the United Kingdom or from the start
date shown on your Certificate Validation Document, whichever is
later. The end of your trip is defined as the date that you
return to the United Kingdom or at the end of the period shown on your Certificate
Validation Document, whichever is earlier. Under Section A, cancellation
cover starts at the time that you book the trip
or pay the insurance premium, whichever is later.
For Annual Multi-Trip Policies only
Under Section A cancellation cover starts from the start date shown on your
Certificate Validation Document or at the time that you
book the trip , whichever is later. Cover is valid for individual
trips up to the limits shown under Annual Multi-Trip options shown
on the Schedule of Benefits for the 12 month period stated on your Certificate
Validation Document. Under Section A cancellation cover is valid for
trips booked during the period shown on your Certificate Validation Document
for trips starting up to 120 days from the end of the period shown on your Certificate
Validation Document. However, you must renew your
policy when it ends for this Section to be valid. Please remember it does not matter
how long you buy cover for, it ends when you return
to the United Kingdom.
"Valuables"
Photographic, audio, video and electrical equipment of any kind (including CDs,
MDs, DVDs, video and audio tapes), telescopes and binoculars, antiques, jewellery,
watches, furs, leather goods, animal skins, silks, precious stones, articles made
of or containing gold, silver or platinum.
"War"
Any war, whether declared or not, or any warlike
activities, including use of military force by any sovereign nation to achieve economic,
geographic, nationalistic, political, racial, religious or other ends.
"We", "us", "our"
St Paul Travelers Lloyd’s Syndicate 5000.
"Winter sports"
Skiing, land-skiing, mono-skiing, cross-country skiing, heli-skiing, off-piste skiing
(only when accompanied by an official guide), snow boarding, ski boarding, sledging,
tobogganing or ice skating.
"Winter sports equipment"
Skis, poles, boots and bindings, snow boards or ice skates.
"You", "your"
Each insured person named on the Certificate Validation Document
attached to the policy document. Each person must have been resident in the United
Kingdom for at least six months and have paid the appropriate premium.
